Modem Troubles

·What is a voice modem?:
See Voice Modem.

·My modem worked fine with another voice mail/fax program but Call Soft refuses to.
This program probably communicated with your modem directly thus bypassing Windows and the need for drivers. Obviously the advantage is the proper modem drivers are not required. However this method also has it's drawbacks. The program your using must know how to communicate with your particular modem and Microsoft will not guarantee direct access to the modem in future releases of Windows. So following Microsoft's recommendation Call Soft uses a subsystem of Windows called TAPI (Short for Telephony Application Programming Interface) to communicates with your modem. When using TAPI Call Soft does not need to know nor care what type of modem your using. The modem driver is designed to "standardize" the communications and hide the details. For example Call Soft is able to simply ask the modem to answer the phone instead of knowing the exact modem command to send.

·There are no modems to pick from in Call Soft's setup:
Do you have a modem connected to your PC and have you correctly installed it using the software provided by the manufacture?

·Call Soft was working but now it will not connect to my modem or says something about device not present. However, at times seems to "come back to life" and everything is OK:
This is probably due to another application screwing around with some system setting. Close all applications including those in your system tray (lower right corner of your screen). If the problem still persists reboot, then close all the applications. We have found some controls used to allow you to listen to an Internet radio broadcast can cause problems, Mindsnare.com is one of them.

·Call Soft says my modem is not a voice modem:
If you know you have a voice modem:
This is commonly due to an incorrect modem driver or your running Windows NT4. We recommend reinstalling the drivers provided with your modem or visit the manufacture's Web site. You might try installing the modem using a different name. For example if you install a Diamond Supra express data/fax/voice and you pick "Diamond Supra Express 56e - PC" Call Soft does not work. However if you pick the name "Diamond Supra Express 56e - PC V.90" Call Soft works fine. We realize this can be a pain and we wish we could do more to help you, but it seems modem manufactures have difficulty identifying their own products correctly.

Try using an answering system that does not require your modem's driver like Advanced Call Center.

If your not sure your modem is a voice modem:
Perform the Hyper Terminal test. If you receive "ERROR" when trying to enable caller ID your modem is probably not a voice modem.
Get modem that will work www.toscintl.com/callsoft/modems.html.

·Call Soft connects to my modem but a few seconds later it disconnects:
Double click the phone/modem icon in Control Panel. If there are any modems listed that are not installed in your PC, remove them.
That didn't work:
Close Call Soft. Go back to the phone/modem icon in Control Panel and remove your modem from the list and reboot. The system should setup the modem again upon rebooting. Sometime letting the system re-initialize the modem will cause it to work properly. You might have to reboot one more time before the system gets the wave devices setup correctly.
That didn't work:
You have two choices:
1. Get modem that will work www.toscintl.com/callsoft/modems.html.
2. Try using an answering system that does not require your modem's driver like Advanced Call Center

·Call Soft is unable to forward a call using my three way calling feature or I can't access my second line using the flash button.
This can be caused by the modem not "flashing" the line long enough e.g. holding the hook down long enough. Call Soft can't control this but you might be able to. First make sure this is the problem by calling someone then click the Flash button on the main window.
If you don't get a dial tone e.g. it does not access your second line do this:
1.Disconnect Call Soft from your modem.
2.To do this double click the modems icon in control panel, get the properties for your modem then go to the advanced tab.
3.Enter S29=200 in the extra setting box. This tells the modem to hold the hook switch down 10ms * 200 = 2000ms

4.Click OK
5.Connect Call Soft to your modem and try again. If you still have trouble try changing the value to S29=240 or S29=255

If your able to access your second line but Call Soft still can't forward a call let us know we might be able to help.
