Play/Recording device:

·Use this device(sound card) when RECORDING greetings:
This is the device (sound card usually) Call Soft will use when it needs to record using the microphone connected to your PC (for example when recording a greeting). This is NOT the microphone you may have connected to your modem.
Click the "Test" button to make sure it works.

·Use this device(sound card) when PLAYING sound or speech:
When Call Soft needs to play / speak through your computers speakers use this device. In most cases you will need to set this to the default. If you have more than one sound card or have some other device you wish to use then select it here.
Click the "Test" button to make sure it works.

TAPI:

·Trust TAPI when asking if a call is connected:
Call Soft does not communicate directly with your modem. Instead it uses a subsystem of Windows called TAPI Telephony Application Programming Interface. This is the preferred method of communication but is not without it's problems. Normally TAPI is suppose to notify Call Soft when a call has ended. This usually happens but at times fails. In the event it fails the line could be held open for a very long time. So there needs to be a backup to the TAPI notify scenario. So Call Soft queries TAPI every 30 seconds or so when a call is in a connected state and asks if the call is connected. The problem is some modem drivers (we think) are not written correctly and always report NO. So you can see the first time Call Soft asks if the call is connected and TAPI reports NO Call Soft will hang up. So if Call Soft appears to be hanging up on your callers within 20 to 45 seconds uncheck this option. If this fixes your problem you should consider getting a different modem.

·Ignore unsolicited disconnects when speaking through modem:
Some modems will interpret part of your greeting as a dial tone or busy signal and try to end the call. Check this option if you believe this is happening to you. Call Soft will try and force the modem to continue with the call despite what it thinks.

Server:
·Allow Call Soft to be an Active X server:
Call Soft can interact with other application like the Call Soft Web server (separate product). There is a considerable amount of overhead being a server so don't check this option unless you know Call Soft needs to communicate with another application. If you modify this value, you will need to restart Call Soft in order for the change to take effect.

·Allow Web Users to retrieve messages.
If your running Call Soft's Web server(separate product) and don't want users to retrieve messages don't check this option.

·Allow Web Users to modify greetings.
If your running Call Soft's Web server (separate product) or other third party software that interacts with Call Soft and don't want them to ever modify a greeting check this option.

Recovery:

·Reboot my computer if the modem fails to respond over an extended period of time.
Although it's rare, sometimes your modem or the system may fail to respond to Call Soft's request to connect to a modem. The reasons are endless, but unless it's a critical hardware failure typically rebooting will reset the modem and the system and get things working again. If Call Soft fails 20 times in a row, it will try and alert someone anywhere near the computer and ask if it's Of to reboot. If no response is heard within 90 seconds the system will be rebooted. When the system comes back up and Call Soft still cannot connect the modem, the system will NOT be rebooted, but will continue to try and make contact with the modem. This feature is redundant if you don't have one of the auto start features checked because you need Call Soft to run when the system comes up again.
There are two scenarios that are considered a failure to connect:
1.If Call Soft immediately fails to open the modem.
2.If Call Soft is able to open the modem but is disconnected within a 30 second period.
Note: It's important to know that rebooting may cause other applications to loose unsaved data and may cause undesirable effects.
