Call Soft Pro Run Service
Previous  Top  Next

What is it?

Normally applications that interface with humans, like Call Soft, will only run when someone logs onto your PC and either runs Call Soft manually or "Start when you log onto this computer." is selected on the general tab in Call Soft's setup. In Windows 2000 and XP applications can run when the operating system starts regardless if someone is logged on or not. This is done through a system services. Call Soft 2.3.12 and above is shipped with a file named TOSCService.exe. This program is responsible for running Call Soft Pro as a service.

The service has two primary tasks. First, as explained above, is to simply run Call Soft when the system starts. The second is to monitor Call Soft and restart it in the event it aborts. We don't ever expect Call Soft to crash but things happen. In the event it does crash the service should restart it in 10 seconds.

When you click the "Run as a service" option on the general tab in setup, Call Soft Pro will check to see if the service has been installed. If it's not installed you will be asked if you want to... choose YES. If Call Soft fails to load the service make sure your logged onto your system as Administrator or use an account with equivalent privileges and try again.

If you want to see all services running on your PC or want to test the Call Soft Pro service, double click the Administrative tools icon in Control Panel, then double click the Services icon. You should see a service named Call Soft. Right click on it and select "Start". You should see Call Soft run and service status change to "started".
