Remote Options Tab
Previous Top Next |
| Remote options are an easy way for you to allow a caller to invoke a special function(s). These functions can be as simple as turning on the speakerphone to checking Email. The remote options tab in mailbox properties is where you specify these functions.
| A caller can gain access to these functions in one of these ways:
| 1. By just entering the mailbox.
| 2. By leaving a message.
| 3. By entering a code.
| To define a new remote option right click in the remote option list and select new.
| Note: These options take precedent, e.g. are checked first when the caller enters a key, so make sure any keys defined here do not conflict with the caller's ability to move to another mailbox or your ability to check messages.

| Some options require specific settings for information from you. As you scroll through the list you will see these options appear and disappear.

| Turns notification ON/OFF. If you turn notification ON then notification will remain ON until you run Call Soft again. | · | MISC: To run this program:
| Specify the program you want to run including any command line arguments or enter the name of a file associated with a program. For example if you enter www.toscintl.com your Web browser will be invoked.
| If you need to run a program based on a caller's input simply add <digits> to the command line. For example:
| Call Soft will ask the caller to enter the command line then run your program with the caller's digits as the command line.
| If you enter this for the program to run: "myprogram.exe <digits>" and the caller enter 123 then "myprogram.exe 123" will be executed.
| We added a few options you can specify.
| Simply add the bracketed text as the program to run.
| 1. <myip> will say the IP address of the computer. This is handy if you need to address your PC from a remote site but your IP address is unknown.
| 2. <reboot> will reboot your system.
| · | MISC: Play a menu of remote options.
| When invoked this will play a list of all your remote options using the menu text |
| · | MISC: Send a message through your LAN.
| Specify the group or individuals on your LAN you want to send a text message to. This uses the same facility as LAN notifications.
| · | PHONE: Stop playing/recording and hangup now:
| Stop everything and hangup immediately. This is useful if you pick up another extension in the house and Call Soft has already answered and you want it to hangup.
| · | PHONE: Hangup and don't reconnect to my modem for 5 minutes:
| This feature was designed for those who run PC Anywhere and allows them to call up and make Call Soft disconnect from the modem, this will allow PC Anywhere to answer the phone and connect with the remote host. Call Soft will reconnect to the modem in 5 minutes. It's OFF if PC Anywhere is still using the line, Call Soft will simply wait for it to finish.
| · | PHONE: Dial this:
| Dial something. Used to access a feature not specifically defined here.
| · | PHONE: Forward the call to another number:
| The requires you to have the 3 way calling feature from your phone company. The option will access your 3 way calling feature, dial the number you enter here then connect the caller to whomever answers at the number you enter. It's the same call forwarding that's available on the general tab.
| If Call Soft has trouble forwarding the call try adding a comma "," before the number to forward the call to. For example: ,713-555-1212 . This will add another second (per comma) before attempting to dial the number.
| The use silence detection option should only be used if your modem cannot detect the end of call e.g. stays connected after you have hung up. When this option is enabled Call Soft will listen for an extended period of silence then disconnect.
| Use Silence Detection: Some modems will not properly detect when a caller has hung up and this can cause you line to remain open. If your modem is one of these you should consider getting another but at least will need to check this option. When checked Call Soft will monitor the line and when 15 seconds of very low or no sound is heard will hang up. Only check this option if your modem dos not hang up by itself.
