Recording Message Tab (only visible when "take a message" is selected on the greeting tab)

The recording tab is where you define the maximum message length and other options related to processing a caller's message before saving it to disk. This tab is only visible when "take a message" is selected on the Greeting tab.

·Maximum record time in seconds: This is the maximum length allowed when recording a message.

·Use silence detection: Some modems will not detect when a caller has hung up so some other method (silence detection) is needed. When this option is ON, Call Soft will try and detect when a caller has finished leaving a message. Call Soft does this by listening for an extended period of silence (timeout setting). For example, you could specify 480 seconds for your maximum record time, but if a caller leaves a 30 second message Call Soft will detect the caller has hung up (silence on the line) and end the recording. You can adjust the silence sensitivity by moving the slide switch. By moving this switch to the right, Call Soft will be better able to detect if someone is talking. You don't want it to be too sensitive, otherwise Call Soft may never detect silence, thus always recording for the maximum time. If Call Soft is "Cutting off" a caller then move this switch to the right. If there is too much silence at the end of a message (20 seconds or more) then move this switch to the left.
Note: It is normal to have about 10 seconds of silence at the end of any message.

·Remove message if less than: If a message is less than 8 or 9 seconds probably indicates they hung up. If any message is less than this many seconds it will be deleted. Note that Call Soft determines the length of the message after removing trailing silence.

·Don't play beep after greeting: If you don't want the beep to be played after the greeting and before recording the message check this option.
