You must already have the party you want to record on the line before you can start recording the conversation.

From Call Soft's main menu select Options -> Record Call. It's not likely you will be able to use your modem's speakerphone when recording. So you if you plan on speaking to the other party you should use another phone in the house and let Call Soft eavesdrop and record.

If you want on record an outbound call:

1.

Call the person you wish to record using another phone in your house.

2.

When the phone begins to ring choose Options -> Record Call from Call Soft's main menu.

When the message appears asking if the call is already connected click YES. Call Soft should begin recording but if it fails double click the modems icon in Control Panel get the properties for your modem and uncheck the option "wait for dial tone before dialing".

4.   Call Soft should hang up automatically when the call has ended but you can click the stop button at any time.

The recorded call will appear in the incoming call history list and will be assigned to your main mailbox.

If you want to record an inbound call or a call already in progress:

1.

Answer or pick up another phone in your home and begin talking.

2.

choose Options -> Record Call from Call Soft's main menu.

3.

When the message appears asking if you want to connect now select YES.

4.   Call Soft should hang up automatically when the call has ended but you can click the stop button at any time.

5.   The recorded call will appear in the incoming call history list and will be assigned to your main mailbox.

If you choose Options -> Record Call from Call Soft's main menu then click YES when asked to start recording now and Call Soft starts recording a dial tone it's likely the recording will be terminated. This is because the dial tone will cause the modem to think it's the end of the call e.g. the caller hung up.

Note: Recording phone conversations is illegal in some states unless both parties know the recording is taking place. With most modems, recording will cause the loss of the speaker phone.
