LAN Notification
Top |
| Various parts of Call Soft allow you to send notifications via your local network. The notifications are sent using Microsoft's messenger service and will appear on remote PC's as a message box. You can specify the message you want sent by workgroup or individual PC's.
| In the picture below LPC and TOSC are workgroups and the items under them are PC's.
| · | When you first run the LAN notification setup it will query your network for all workgroups and the PC's contained in them. This might take a few minutes. The network will not be queried again until your click the refresh button.
| · | Define or modify the message by simply editing the "message to send" box. All text delimited by brackets <> are tags and will be replaced with a value defined by the tag. You choose to remove or duplicate tags.
| · | To select a workgroup or PC either double click it or right click and choose "Select Node". If you select a workgroup the message will be sent to all PC's participating in that workgroup not just the ones that might appear when you setup the notification.

| Note: If you have trouble sending messages it's possible one of these two can be at fault:
| 1. | Your firewall is blocking the message. Configure your firewall to allow connections on port 135.
| 2. | If using Windows 2000 or XP make sure the messenger service is running on the remote PC's. Click the Administrative Tools icon in control panel then double click the services icon. Find the messenger service in the list and enable it. Also make sure it's startup is set to automatic.
| 3.Also try going to a DOS or command prompt and enter NET SEND SOMEPC HELLO where SOMEPC is the name of the PC you want to send a message to and HELLO is the message. You might be able to derive more information as to why the message could not be sent.
