Caller ID

Previous Top Next |
| · | Call Soft does not detect caller ID or keeps displaying "Unknown" for the name.
| Do you have caller ID service from your phone company?
| No: You must have it
| Yes: Perform the Hyper Terminal test to determine if the modem's caller ID is working.
| I failed the HyperTerminal Test:
| A. Do you have more than 1 PCI modem in your PC?
| Yes: Take them all out except for the one your using. If you get caller ID you will need to upgrade your PC.
| B. You will need to get a modem that will work, they are very inexpensive.
| I actually can see Caller ID information during the HyperTerminal test:
| A. Do you have the modem manufactures drivers installed ( If Call Soft is able to play a greeting and record a message you probably do)?
| Yes: Get the properties for your modem, go to the Advanced tab and enter AT+VCID=1 or AT#CID=1 (which ever worked for you in the hyper terminal test) in the Extra initialization command box. If your lucky your modem is simply not being told to capture CID by the driver. If this does not work go to B. below.
| No: Visit the manufacture's Web site and get the proper drivers.
| B. Is Windows parsing the caller ID correctly? To find out do this.
| · | Double click the modems icon in control panel and get the properties for your modem.
| · | Go to the diagnostics tab and enable the option "append to log" and click OK.
| · | Now call a few times letting the caller ID do whatever.
| · | Go back the modem properties and click the View Log button.
| · | Copy the text to the Windows clipboard and paste it into an Email to callsoft@mycallsoft.com we will tell you if it's being parsed correctly and possibly help fix it.
| C. Double click the phone or modem icon in Control Panel and retrieve the modems properties. Make sure the Maximum port speed is set to 115200.
| D. Make sure your phone cord is as short as possible from your modem to the wall.
| E. Run this test. Disconnect all phones in your house where your modem is the only device connected. Call your house, if you see an improvement one of your phones is impeding the caller ID signal probably by adding noise to the line.
| F. If using Windows XP make sure your system is up to date. Click the Windows Start button and choose the option Windows Update. Sometimes problems mysteriously disappear (and appear) after an update.
| · | Call Soft displays "O" or "P" for the callers name.
| This is OK. This is your modems way of telling you the caller is out of area "O" and private "P". The private means the caller is deliberately not sending caller ID. Setup a phone book record keying off the O or P to display Private or Out of area if you wish.
